When is the Camp available?
The Camp is available for rent all year long! We do not have an online calendar so in order to check availability call us at 828-772-5454, or email us at office@thecampnc.com. You can also simply go to the request a quote link and fill it out. The Camp books up quickly so do it ASAP!
Is it possible to rent a single residence?
Yes, you can rent just one residence. All amenities are shared, and often times there are multiple groups on the property. We try our best to book similar groups. For example, we wouldn’t put a family group with a biker group, etc.

Can we have our wedding at The Camp?
Yes! We recommend using our property during the warmer months for weddings and large events. The most beautiful times of the year for weddings are Spring, when everything is blossoming and newly green, and Fall, when the foliage begins to turn bright colors. The views at The Camp offer gorgeous photo back-drops!
Why does your calendar say that the week I’d like to reserve is available, but I cannot reserve it?
Between the time we email a contract to potential vacationers and the time we receive their deposit to hold their reservation, we leave the calendar open so as not to turn away potential vacationers if a group cancels or does not get their contract back to us in a timely manner. For this reason, we strongly suggest faxing or scanning/emailing the contract back and paying the deposit with a credit card.
Can I tour the property before I book my reservation?
Yes, we can provide a tour of the property for serious inquiries only. You must make an appointment for a tour. We try to conduct tours between guests’ departures and arrivals. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, we typically conduct tours on Saturdays, between 11am and 3pm. Other dates, please inquire.
Are you pet-friendly?
Yes! As long as your pet is house-trained and you have signed a pet addendum with your contract, we allow dogs on the premises. Please be kind and pick up after your pet. We do require owners to leash their pets if sharing the camp with other vacationers. The Pond House offers a fenced pet area, if you’d like to let your pet run around a bit. Pet fees are $125 per pet.
What fees are not included in the price I see on your rate sheet?
Pet fees are $125 per house-trained dog or cat. We require you to sign an addendum to the contract if you bring a pet.
Do you have staff on-site?
We have caretakers on-site, but we do not have anyone on-site for cooking or recreational instruction. Staff phone numbers are posted on residence refrigerators, in case of maintenance emergency. Camp rules are posted in every residence and recreational building.
Do I have to bring my own food?
Guests do their own food shopping and cooking. Each of the homes has a full kitchen and outside grill. You can also hire your own chef or caterer or use a food delivery service. We can refer you to caterers, food delivery services, wedding planners, etc. We like to use Valet Gourmet. Also, a wonderful restaurant in Lake Lure, called La Strada (www.LaStradaAtLakeLure.com), offers a variety of delicious Italian and American food to go.
Are the Social Hall and Commercial Kitchen available year-round?
Yes, guests are encouraged to use the Social Hall/Arcade and Commercial Kitchen year-round. The building has electricity and lights, but is heated via a large stone fireplace and space heaters in the cooler months. The commercial kitchen and adjoining restrooms have no running water in the winter, so guests are encouraged to cater meals and/or use the residences’ kitchens and bathrooms. (The water pipes to the non-heated buildings are shut off when the weather dips below 32 degrees, to avoid the pipes freezing.)
Can I do any fishing at The Camp?
Yes. Bring your fishing poles because we have 3 ponds that have Sunfish, Bass and other kinds of fish. We kindly ask that you release the fish back after you catch it.
Does everyone get to use the pool and slide? Are they heated and what times of year are they open?
Yes! The pool and water-slide are opened in late April/early May and closed in late October, based on the weather. The pool & waterslide are both heated (by “heated”, we mean room temperature, not “hot”). The hot tub is open year round! Everyone renting a residence at The Camp has use of all recreational activities, including the pool, water-slide, Jacuzzi, gym, tennis courts, soccer/baseball field, social hall/arcade, etc.
Do we need to bring our own sports equipment?
You may bring mountain bikes or fishing poles, but we have balls, bats, basketballs, volleyballs, etc. Everything for our recreational facilities is provided and available to use at The Camp.
Can we make campfires and s’mores?
Yes! We have multiple camp fire sites and we also provide all the firewood you need.
What if it rains?
No problem. The Gymnasium with a basketball court, gymnastics mats, and exercise room are all indoors with great lighting. Also, the 5,000 sq. foot Social Hall with a free arcade is indoors, too.
Do we need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle to get there?
No. The road to the front gate of The Camp is a State Road that the local school bus travels regularly. Although the last mile of it is gravel, small cars such as the Mini Cooper, get there with no problem.
Do cell phones work in the area?
Sprint and Verizon cell phones have decent reception at The Camp. Other cell services are possible, but sporadic at best.
Is there a landline phone at The Camp?
Yes. Each house has a phone. You can make and receive unlimited local and long distance calls from anywhere in the United States.
What about email?
There is high-speed wireless internet at The Camp! Therefore, if you want to use an I-pad, etc. you can do it!
Do you provide food, towels, or linens? What else should we bring to The Camp?
We do provide bath towels, pool towels, and linens for all of the beds. Also, every home has its own full size washer and dryer. You will need to bring: Ice (if planning to use more ice than each residence refrigerator makes), Toiletries/Soaps/Detergents, Sun screen, Bug repellent, Paper products, Trash bags, Dishwashing detergent, Laundry detergent…We usually have a roll of paper towels in each kitchen and a roll of toilet paper in each bathroom, but consider the size of your group and prepare accordingly. We have extra refrigerator/freezer space in the commercial kitchen for ice and food items.
Do you offer a shuttle service from the Asheville Airport?
We do not offer a shuttle service from The Camp, but we can refer you to a local shuttle service, which can transport 10-14 people per trip, with or without luggage, for a decent price.
Where can I get supplies/groceries, locally, for my stay at The Camp?
The nearest grocery stores, in either direction of The Camp, are approximately 12 miles away: Ingles (276 North Carolina 9 Lake Lure, NC 28746) and Food Lion (1350 Charlotte Highway Fairview, NC 28730). If you’d like a WalMart or larger selection of stores, Asheville or Hendersonville are only 35 minutes away.
Can I buy a souvenir from The Camp?
We offer a small selection of shirts for sale at The Camp. If you’d like to order souvenirs for your group at The Camp, let us know at least 90 days prior to your stay. We can accommodate most requests if ordered within a reasonable time prior to your visit. We suggest beach/pool towels, stuffed black bears, sweatshirts, T-shirts, or jackets.
What types of activities can my family find outside of The Camp?
Chimney Rock State Park and Lake Lure, which is ranked in the top 10 most beautiful man-made lakes in the world with crystal clear water and was the place “Dirty Dancing” was filmed, are about 10 minutes away and offer a plethora of restaurants, boating activities, a beach, putt-putt, kayaking and shopping.
